The hotly-anticipated follow-up to the disastrous Galaxy Note 7 it set to launch in August, according to sources familiar with the matter.
That makes sense – after all, Samsung has announced previous Note handsets, including the Note 5 and Note 7 during the same timeframe.
It also allows Samsung to get to market ahead of rival Apple, which typically announces its latest smartphone in September.
Apple is expected to pull-out all the stops during its latest iPhone launch.
The Cupertino-based company is rumoured to launch a redesigned flagship smartphone – iPhone 8 – will an edge-to-edge OLED display, wireless charging, waterproof all-glass design, amongst other features.
The new phone will mark the 10th anniversary of the iPhone smartphone range.

Apple iPhone 8 will debut a brand-new all-glass look, with a curved OLED display

Meanwhile, it looks like the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will be more than a match for the latest Apple hardware.
According to the latest report from Reuters, Galaxy Note 8 will ship with a dual camera system on the back of the phone.
It’s unclear how Samsung plans to use the dual camera set-up, for example, whether it will favour the wide-angle approach to photography LG has used, or the depth-perception employed by Apple with its iPhone 7 Plus.
Samsung is widely-tipped to use the same Infinity Display design it debuted with the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus.
Elsewhere, rumours point to the Galaxy Note 8 sporting an impressive 6.4 inch edge-to-edge display.
Like its predecessors, the Galaxy Note 8 will incorporate a stylus to unlock a slew of productivity-focused features.

Numerous leaked images purporting to be the Note 8 reveal a similar design to the S8
The next-generation S Pen is said to have a built-in motor that works with the Find My Mobile app to help you locate it, should you misplace it.
Samsung is believed to be looking into technology that will allow it to embed its fingerprint scanner beneath the glass of the phone display.
Apple is tipped to be looking into a similar solution for its upcoming iPhone 8, which is expected to ditch the physical Home Button from the front of the phone for the first time.
The iPhone 8 was purportedly plagued with delays due to setbacks with the cutting-edge technology.
Samsung is also believed to have experienced similar difficulties, with early prototypes of the Galaxy S8 revealing no fingerprint sensor on the rear of the device.

Samsung could borrow the design of the Galaxy S8 and place the fingerprint sensor on the back
Sources now tell of a similar conflict with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.
Designer Benjamin Geskin has created a high-resolution render of the upcoming Galaxy Note based on both sets of rumours – one with a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, and one with the fingerprint hidden on the front of the phone.
The renders were first published by TechnoBuffalo and reveal two very different versions of the handset.

The most ambitious rumoured design would see Samsung drop the fingerprint scanner was not best impressed with the rear-mounted fingerprint sensor on the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Plus.
“Unlocking this phone with the fingerprint sensor is teeth-grinding, eye-rolling exercise in anger management,” we wrote.
“First of all, the small sensor is not in a natural position for your index finger – forcing you to blindly reach and fumble around the back of the phone to authenticate the login, inevitably covering the camera lens in greasy fingerprints.

The rear-mounted fingerprint scanner on the S8 is really clunky
“Samsung has tried to alleviate some of this frustration by including options to use either use face recognition (which is not secure enough to be used for contactless payments) or an improved version of the iris scanner that shipped with the Galaxy Note 7.
“But every conceivable way to unlock the Samsung Galaxy S8 is an annoyance.”
